Student clubs at the heart of LBSBy Sir Andrew Likierman
This is the peak season for student club activities and yet again they are a feast for those interested in what’s going on.
Over the last month we’ve had the India and Africa Business Forums looking at growth and opportunities in the regions, the Net Impact Conference discussing impact investing and how companies can generate return on impact, and the Private Equity/Venture Capital and Asset Management conferences, looking at trends in the investment industry. This week, TEDx will bring in their usual range of eclectic and inspiring speakers.
The conferences bring big names to the School. In the last few days alone I’ve heard from Isabel Dos Santos (Chair of Angolan energy company Sonangol), Vanguard founder Jack Bogle, Y.K. Sinha (the Indian High Commissioner) and Guy Hands (Founder of leading Private Equity firm Terra Firma). It’s also great that so many alumni are involved as speakers and sponsors. As well as big names come big numbers - 400 at the Africa business summit alone. So they are also valuable for networking and connecting to the practitioner world.
The clubs are hugely important in what makes the School special. On behalf of the whole community I’d like to thank those who make them so useful and interesting.
