Sammy Ofer Centre updateBy Richard Frost, School Secretary
Construction work at the Sammy Ofer Centre is progressing well and the project is now less than a year from completion.
The external walls of the new teaching block are in place and construction of the partition and corridor walls and the steel staircase leading to the top floor meeting room is almost finished. New windows have been installed throughout the Council House and Annex, the ceilings have been restored, and the original parquet flooring is being re-laid. Preparatory work for the new link building, which will act as the School’s main entrance, has been completed and installation of the steel framework has begun.
We have agreed with Wates (our main contractor) that they will provide restricted access to each area of the site as they complete it, so that we can install the furniture and IT/AV equipment. The first area of the site to be made available will be the Annex in January 2017. The Council House, link area and teaching block will then be released throughout the spring, with construction work scheduled to conclude just over 10 months from now, in May 2017.
An exhibition about the Sammy Ofer Centre will be installed in the S1 lounge in the new academic year and we will continue to keep you informed throughout the year.
