Making an impact in the community - have your say!By Sir Andrew Likierman
For nearly six years now, staff, students and faculty have been volunteering to support the local community, parts of which are seriously underprivileged. Activities have included painting and renovating community spaces, Christmas toy drives, lectures for local schools and job skills workshops.
In October 2015, the Student Association launched LBS4London. More than 230 LBS volunteers from across the School came together to support charity projects around London, including building playgrounds and planting gardens. It is hoped this will become an annual event.
Volunteering is just one example of making our vision real – in this case through social impact. More broadly, Faculty member, Simona Botti, is now leading the Community Engagement Working Group, a cross-School body that aims to develop a community engagement strategy for the School. In her role, she is conducting an audit of our various community engagement activities. These include not only volunteering but any activities which enhance our relationship with, and contribute to the well-being of, communities other than our own. Please do take five minutes to fill in her survey.
All these activities are valuable in improving the LBS experience while increasing the broader impact of the School. I’m proud with what we are doing to be good citizens locally as well as globally. If you are, thank you for being involved. If not, please consider it.
