'Is more transparency always better?': Faculty Lecture Series with Dr Darren Bernard
The next Faculty Research Lecture with Dr Darren Bernard, Assistant Professor of Accounting is titled 'Is more transparency always better?', and takes place on Tuesday 19 February from 13:00 to 14:00 in LT7.
This talk will explore the effects of corporate disclosure requirements on how firms compete. Drawing on examples from around the world, we will discuss the positive and (often unanticipated) negative consequences of these requirements, focusing in particular on several examined in Professor Bernard’s own work.
We will also examine how managers use voluntary disclosures strategically, as to deter entrants and thwart competitors. If more transparency is not always better, then what is the right amount, and how should it be regulated?
