In Conversation with Mário Centeno, Eurogroup President
As the Euro celebrates its 20th anniversary, the School welcomes Mário Centeno, President of the Eurogroup – the body representing Finance Ministers of the Eurozone.
The event takes place on the evening of Tuesday 16 April at Sammy Ofer Centre and is chaired by Francisco Gomes, Professor of Finance, and supported by the AQR Asset Management Institute and the Wheeler Institute for Business and Development.
Mr Centeno also serves as the Chair of the Board of Governors of the European Stability Mechanism and is the Finance Minister of Portugal, a role in which he led the turnaround of the Portuguese economy by casting aside austerity measures.
Before taking questions from the audience, Mr Centeno will discuss the role of the European single currency in an uncertain world, reflecting on how it overcame the sovereign-debt crisis to become a beacon of stability and further integration in Europe. He will also unpack the current economic situation and the prospects ahead, including what actions will be required to complete the Economic and Monetary Union.
