Simona Botti wins Excellence in Teaching Award 2017
Simona Botti, Associate Professor of Marketing, has been named winner of the School’s annual Excellence in Teaching Award.
The award is made to a member of faculty who is judged by their peers as having made an outstanding contribution to teaching at London Business School. Student ratings also play an essential part in determining the award winner.
Dr Botti, who has been with the School since 2007, teaches on the Brand Management elective course and co-directs the Executive Education programme, Strategic Branding: From Behavioural Insight to Business Growth.
She said: “I’m very happy to receive this award, but feel strongly that teaching is a collaborative effort. Therefore, this award is also for my fellow Marketing faculty members who have generously shared their materials and expertise with me. It is also for my students who have helped me improve during the last ten years through their class participation and feedback.”
Dr Botti’s research focuses on consumer behaviour and decision making. She places particular emphasis on the psychological processes underlying perceived personal control and how exercising this control - through freedom of choice, individual power and the availability of information - influences consumer satisfaction and wellbeing. Dr Botti received her PhD in Marketing from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
The award, which will be formally presented at LBS’s annual Congregation ceremony, was judged using the following criteria:
- Personal ratings from students
- Intellectual rigour and challenge of courses taught
- Effort, achievement and innovation in course development
- Mentoring and peer advice provided to other faculty members
- Feedback to students and peers, including speed, quality and helpfulness
- Teaching that embodies LBS’s values
Professor Sir Andrew Likierman said: “Many congratulations to a fantastic teacher. The award recognises excellence in the classroom for the benefit of our students.”
