Sammy Ofer Centre shortlisted for prestigious award
Nine buildings including our amazing Sammy Ofer Centre have been shortlisted for the Architects’ Journal, Building of the Year award.
Sammy Ofer Centre has been made possible by a significant fundraising campaign, which garnered more than £125 million, part of which was used to support the redevelopment of the Old Marylebone Town Hall site. The School’s fundraising programme was substantially supported with a £25 million donation from the Idan and Batia Ofer Family Foundation in 2013.
Designed by architects, Sheppard Robson, and with 37 seminar rooms, six lecture theatres, a stunning library and multiple breakout areas, the centre has increased teaching space by 70%. The famous Grade II-listed building successfully marries a 1920s structure designed in the classical style, with the latest in architectural design and facilities.
Also in contention for the prize are Bloomberg HQ, White Collar Factory, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the HawkHead Centre.
The AJ100 is running a poll for Building of the Year on Twitter, and the School would love your support by voting for it to win! All you need to do to vote is tweet mentioning #AJ100, the Sammy Ofer Centre and “Building of the Year” along with the hashtag #SR.
Winners will be announced on Wednesday 13 June. Read all about the award and the full shortlist.
