Professor Herminia Ibarra receives Academy of Management 2018 Award
The Academy of Management’s nominating committee recognised Professor Ibarra for long-term, significant contributions to the field by authoring scholarly works that have substantively affected management practice. The committee also commended Professor Ibarra for translating her research into cases, the wide appeal of her books among practitioners, her support to junior colleagues and championing gender diversity.
Professor Ibarra says: “I am honoured to receive the award and thank the Academy for this recognition.”
The Academy of Management 2018 Award for Distinguished Scholar-Practitioner is a prestigious, lifetime career achievement award. It recognises long-term, significant contributions to the application of research in practice, academic work that has a significant impact on the practice of management, and the integration of research and practice. It also recognises respect from academic and practitioner peers.
Professor Ibarra is a leading expert in leadership development. Her most recent book, Act Like a Leader, Think Like a Leader, explains how to step up to a bigger leadership role. Her best-selling book Working Identity: Unconventional Strategies for Reinventing Your Career describes how people reinvent their careers.
Author of numerous articles in top academic journals, Ibarra also writes for business publications including the Harvard Business Review, Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times, and speaks internationally on leadership and talent management. She is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Expert Network, and is ranked eighth in the world by the Thinkers50 list of most influential management thinkers.
