Herminia Ibarra named in gender equality top 100

We are delighted to announce that our very own Herminia Ibarra, Charles Handy Chair and Professor of Organisational Behaviour, has been included in Apolitical’s annual list of the 100 Most Influential People in Gender Policy in 2018. The list celebrates global gender policy influencers that are making our societies fairer and better to live in.

Nominations were received from dozens of gender experts from national governments, international organisations, academia and NGOs, such as the Wilson Center, Women Deliver and UNDP.

Professor Ibarra has been named alongside some of the most incredible women and men from around the world, including: Amina Mohammed, Malala Yousafzai, Margot Wallström and Justin Trudeau – to name just a few!

Responding to the news of her nomination, Professor Ibarra said: “I’m honoured to be included in this amazing list. It’s hugely important to have social scientists advancing research into the barriers that women face in the professional world.”

The issues are often subtle, she explained. “They exist at the intersection of taken-for-granted work practices and processes and psychological dynamics that, for example, lead people to favour the company of like-others.

“Companies have found that they cannot mandate gender diversity, particularly when it comes to top roles. So, we continue to work to help them understand what levers stand a better chance of moving the needle.”
