Delegation of top talent attends One Young World Annual Summit
London Business School sent a delegation of ten people to experience One Young World’s 10th annual summit from 22 to 25 October 2019, in London. A global forum for young leaders, One Young World identifies, promotes and connects young leaders to create a better world, with responsible, effective leadership.
Following a competitive application process, the delegates included two School staff members, three recent graduates and two current students (all from Early Careers programmes). Our Early Careers team, together with the Wheeler Institute for Business and Development, also funded three young leaders from Kosovo, Nigeria and Zimbabwe who were chosen from thousands of applicants to attend the summit.
Reflecting on the event, Ana Djú, Recruitment and Admissions Officer, Early Career Programmes, said, “The summit was an opportunity for me to meet with young leaders from all over the world and partake in world’s biggest think-tank. I have come out feeling like there are endless possibilities to create impactful change locally and globally. The summit pushed me to get out of my comfort zone… All over the world, young leaders are creating spaces and innovative ideas that impact hundreds of people, even if we are not aware. More than ever I know that change starts with me and I have the power to continue to change lives. The summit was definitely the highlight of my year.”
Paola Bethmage, MiF Programme Manager, Degree Education and Career Centre, said, “The ambience during all four days was truly special and to know that I was in a room filled with people with similar motivations, gave me reassurance that we are all in it together… I was blown away and will always remember the stories of the delegate speakers... Their stories were told with such pride and if there were tears, they were tears of hope and resilience... Attending the One Young World conference with fellow LBS delegates was one of the best experiences of my life.”
After attending the One Young World summit, delegates return home and develop existing initiatives or spearhead new ventures, which bring about positive change in their community and beyond.
