Coronavirus Update – 16 March 2020

*This email was sent to all staff, faculty and students on 16.03.2020

Dear colleagues,

I am writing today to share with you an important update affecting our School community and inform you of an important shift in the way we will communicate confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases moving forward.

New COVID-19 case
This morning, the School was informed that a second member of our student population had unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19. The School is in contact with the student to support their wellbeing and I am pleased to confirm they are doing well.

The student has not been on campus since Monday 9 March 2020, and has assisted the School in identifying the people they met and the areas they visited in the 14 days prior. We are using this information to contact any individuals we believe came into contact with the student. The areas of the campus that the student used for a sustained period have been closed off to undergo deep cleaning.
The School was not notified by Public Health England (PHE) as the diagnosis was made overseas.

Communication of cases going forward
The School is committed to transparency and has therefore developed a new communications policy that ensures you can remain aware of any confirmed cases in the School community and acknowledges the practicalities of continuing to send whole community notices following each diagnosis.
Moving forward, in the event we are notified of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the School community, we will:
  • Directly notify members of the School community believed to have come into contact with the diagnosed case while on campus or in the course of School business, unless this is already being managed by PHE;
  • Identify any areas of the School that need to undergo a deep clean as a result of the confirmed case and close them down while those cleaning procedures are carried out;
  • Update the FAQs section of the LBS website to publicly notify the School community of the confirmed case.
Important reminders
The Dubai campus remains closed until 5 April. The London campus remains open.
All non-essential School community events of any size are suspended until further notice. We will re-evaluate the situation at the end of April.

There is no on-site teaching anywhere this week or next. Communications about the logistics of the Summer term will be shared later.

You should also stay at home for 14 days if you or anyone in your household shows any symptoms.
Do not go to a GP, hospital or pharmacy. Use the NHS’s 111 online coronavirus service if your condition gets worse, your symptoms do not get better after 7 days, or you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home.

I am aware that the volume of information and changes shared with you in recent days may feel overwhelming. Our community’s mental health, in addition to their physical wellbeing, remains of utmost importance to me.

With this in mind, I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that the School has access to a number of resources that may be beneficial to you at this time. If you are a student, please contact your Stream Manager in the first instance. If you are a staff or faculty member, please speak with your Line Manager, or Subject Area Chair or Manager. You may also access the School’s Employee Assistance Programme; please visit Portal for additional details.

Warmly,
François
